How We Compare Carriers
Complete transparency on how we evaluate, score and rank the carriers and lenders featured on Comparison Genius.
Purpose of This Page
This page sets out, in full, how Comparison Genius evaluates and ranks insurance carriers, lenders and other financial providers featured across our comparison and pillar pages. Every reader should be able to understand exactly how a ranking on this site was reached.
How Carriers Are Selected
Inclusion criteria
- Authorised or licensed by the relevant regulator (FCA, state DOI, OSFI / provincial regulator).
- Product is currently available to new consumers.
- Sufficient public product information for like-for-like evaluation.
- Meets reasonable standards of financial stability and customer servicing.
Market coverage
We aim to feature a representative mix of large national carriers, established specialists and notable challenger brands so the comparison reflects the real choices available to a typical consumer. We do not claim to compare every provider in the market.
Comparison Methodology
Every featured provider is evaluated against a consistent set of factors:
How Rates Are Obtained
Sample prices come from publicly available rate sheets, quote tools and product disclosure documents at the time of last review. They represent illustrative starting premiums for a typical customer profile, not personalised quotes.
Ranking Methodology
Each provider is scored out of 10 based on a weighted blend of the comparison factors. Indicative weighting:
Data Sources
- •Provider policy documents & rate sheets
- •FCA register, NAIC filings, state DOI filings, OSFI returns
- •Trade body reports (ABI, III, IBC, LIMRA)
- •Ratings agencies (AM Best, S&P, Moody's, Trustpilot)
- •Government statistics (HMRC, IRS, CRA, ONS)
- •Independent analyst and market reports
